Terms of Service

Effective: 24 April 2026

Pre-alpha notice. nlqdb is in pre-alpha and is provided on a best-effort basis by an individual developer. These terms are a reasonable starting point, not a production contract. Before you run anything business-critical on nlqdb, please talk to us first.

1. Acceptance

By accessing or using nlqdb.com, nlqdb.ai, any subdomain of either, the nlq command-line tool, our MCP server, any SDK we publish, or any embeddable component (collectively, “the service”), you agree to these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, do not use the service.

2. Eligibility

You must be at least 13 years old (16 in the EEA) to use the service. By using the service on behalf of an organization, you represent that you have authority to bind that organization to these terms.

3. What the service does

nlqdb lets you create databases and query them in natural language. Engine choice, schema, indexes, and backups are managed automatically. The service is provided over HTTP, through the nlq CLI, through the nlqdb MCP server, and through embeddable web components.

During pre-alpha and alpha, the service is offered for free with no service level agreement (SLA). Features, endpoints, rate limits, and data models may change without notice.

4. Your account

Applies from Phase 1 onward, when sign-in launches. You are responsible for all activity under your account and for keeping your credentials safe. API keys are yours to manage; you can rotate or revoke them from the dashboard. Notify us promptly of any unauthorized use.

5. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

We may rate-limit, suspend, or terminate any account that breaks these rules, with or without notice.

6. Your data

The data you entrust to nlqdb — databases, rows, query history, and anything you paste into the chat — is yours. You grant us a limited, non-exclusive license to host and process that data solely to operate the service for you. We do not sell your data. We do not share it with third parties except the service providers listed in our Privacy Policy.

You are responsible for ensuring you have the right to store the data you upload. You are responsible for complying with any laws that apply to that data (e.g. GDPR, HIPAA, PCI). During pre-alpha we do not offer compliance certifications; please do not store regulated data on the service until we announce otherwise.

7. Our intellectual property

The service, including the platform code, website, CLI, MCP server, SDKs, and embeddable components, is owned by nlqdb (and its contributors) and is protected by copyright and other laws. Parts of the service are released under open-source licenses; the source repository is private during pre-alpha — contact hello@nlqdb.com for specific license terms. Nothing in these terms grants you any right in the service or in our trademarks beyond what an open-source license explicitly grants.

8. Fees

The service is free during pre-alpha. We will introduce usage-based tiers in later phases; if fees become applicable to your account we will notify you in advance and require your explicit agreement before charging.

9. Termination

You may stop using the service at any time. You may delete your account (once accounts launch) from the dashboard, which removes your databases and personal data within 30 days.

We may suspend or terminate accounts that break these terms, create undue risk for the service, or otherwise disrupt operations. We will make a reasonable effort to notify you before doing so, except in cases involving a security risk or legal obligation.

10. Disclaimers

The service is provided “as is” and “as available.” We make no warranties — express, implied, or statutory — including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement, or that the service will be uninterrupted, timely, accurate, or error-free. Natural-language queries are translated by probabilistic language models; results may be incorrect. Validate consequential outputs before acting on them.

11. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, nlqdb and its operators will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of profits, revenues, data, or goodwill, arising from your use of the service. For direct damages, our total aggregate liability is limited to the greater of (a) the fees you paid to us in the twelve months before the event giving rise to liability, or (b) one hundred U.S. dollars.

12. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold nlqdb and its operators harmless from any claim or demand — including reasonable attorneys’ fees — made by a third party because of or arising out of your use of the service, your data, or your violation of these terms.

13. Governing law and disputes

These terms are governed by the substantive laws of Switzerland, excluding its conflict-of-law rules and the United Nations Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods (CISG). Any dispute arising out of or relating to these terms or the service will be brought exclusively in the competent courts of Zurich, Switzerland, and you consent to personal jurisdiction there. This clause is subject to change before public launch; if you are relying on it please check back or contact us.

14. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms as the service evolves. We will post the updated version at this URL and update the “Effective” date at the top. For material changes we will make a reasonable effort to notify active users via email. Continued use after the change constitutes acceptance of the revised terms.

15. Miscellaneous

If any part of these terms is found unenforceable, the rest remains in effect. Our failure to enforce any right is not a waiver of that right. You may not assign these terms without our written consent; we may assign them in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets. These terms, together with our Privacy Policy, are the entire agreement between you and nlqdb regarding the service.
